LOVE WELL COUNSELLING - INFORMED CONSENT

Mark Power, R.ACTA, CYCC, M.CCPA

Registered Counsellor and Mental Health Practitioner

Specializing in Emotional Restoration • Relational Repair • Behavioural and Mental Health • Personal Growth • Resilience and Recovery

MY COMMITMENT TO YOU

This agreement outlines how counselling works and how your information is protected. It builds transparency, trust, and shared understanding before we begin.

Trust is the foundation of our work. Each session is approached with care, intention, and respect for the process. My role is to guide with integrity, helping you move toward clarity, strength, and sustainable growth.

My approach is integrity-based, grounded in honesty, accountability, and practical care. The aim is lasting change, not dependence. The goal is to uncover and heal root issues, gain insight, and move forward with confidence.

Progress is anticipated, not forced. Some sessions bring clear steps, others deepen understanding and trust. Meaningful change often unfolds within four to seven sessions, while leaving space for deeper work when needed.

Counselling relies on shared respect and safety. I provide steadiness and care; you help protect the space by speaking honestly and keeping yourself, and if present, others safe. Strong emotions are welcome. Harm is not. Growth requires both courage and respect.

Every measure is taken to protect your well-being, preserve your dignity, and guard the privacy of your personal story.

These are not only professional duties. They are promises.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Counselling is a guided process of self-understanding and growth. Together we explore how experiences, beliefs, and relationships shape the way you see yourself and the world. The aim is not perfection, rather understanding, strength, and balance in how you live and relate.

Much of this work involves seeing how early experiences influence adult life. This is not about judging or blaming parents or caregivers. It is a way to recognize where they did their best and where their limits shaped ours. Seeing this clearly helps us extend compassion and find peace within ourselves.

The same awareness applies to partners, children, and others in our lives. Relationships often reflect familiar patterns and invite growth through honesty, patience, and courage.

Counselling may involve:

• Remembering painful memories or emotions

• Exploring difficult relationships or experiences

• Identifying and releasing unhelpful beliefs

• Developing healthy ways to respond to life’s challenges

• Finding direction and balance amid change

As insight deepens, you may notice shifts in confidence, boundaries, and relationships. Sometimes this leads to reconnection, sometimes to clarity where others are not ready to meet you. We cannot control another’s response, although we can move toward them with honesty and respect, the path where understanding and goodwill grow.

Intended benefits include:

• Relief from emotional distress

• Clearer sense of identity and purpose

• Healthier relationships and boundaries

• Greater resilience and steadiness

• Release from fear, shame, and old patterns

• A balanced, self-accepting way of living

OUTCOMES

Progress is personal. It develops through your readiness, participation, and our working relationship. My role is to walk with you, helping you become capable, clear, and whole as you face whatever life brings.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All records remain confidential and securely stored for ten years. Information will not be shared without your written consent except where required by law.

Legal limits to confidentiality include:

• Risk of serious harm to self or others

• Abuse or neglect of a child under 18

• Risk to a vulnerable adult in care

• Disclosure of sexual abuse by a regulated health professional

• Court or legal order requiring release of only what is legally necessary

PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION

To provide the highest quality of care, I may consult with trusted supervisors or peers and use secure digital resources such as artificial intelligence or online research to deepen understanding of counselling approaches. I will inform you if professional consultation or digital resources are involved in your therapeutic planning, always with respect and diligence.

Client names or identifying details are never entered, shared, or disclosed. These practices serve only to enhance care and broaden perspective, never to replace my professional discernment guiding our work together.

SESSION & PAYMENT PROTOCOL

Payment is due before or at the end of each session unless other arrangements have been made. A credit card may be securely stored for convenience. Payments can be made by e-transfer, credit card, or debit.

Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. Missed or late cancellations may incur a $60 fee or 50% of the session rate, whichever is less, with exceptions for emergencies or illness.

Session fees reflect professional time and service. Refunds are not issued once a session has occurred. For sessions paid through an insurance provider, refunds may be possible depending on the insurer’s process and may take up to two weeks to complete.

If insurance covers only a portion of the session fee, clients are responsible for the remaining balance.
